Wirecard Fraud Scandal – November 8, 2023

Our Central Ohio ACFE Chapter is excited to announce a 3 CPE webinar featuring Wirecard whistleblower Pav Gill interviewed by ACFE 2023 Speaker of the Year Mary Breslin and an introduction and background from the “Fraudsters” podcast hosts! The event will be held virtually on November 8th from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM EST, and hosted in partnership with the Twin Cities ACFE Chapter and sponsored by Verracy to keep the cost low for all interested in attending!

Seena Ghaznavi, Justin Williams, and Ariel Leaty will present a background on the Wirecard scandal. They will also go into detail on how the fraud was caught and who was involved.

Mary Breslin will interview Pav Gill and provide the audience with a true whistleblower to whistleblower discussion. Mary and Pav will do a deep dive of what materialized in Wirecard scandal and how Pav Gill was able to detect and report the fraud. Mary Breslin

Mary Breslin is the Founder of Verracy and an internationally recognized speaker and training facilitator for Internal Audit, Risk and Fraud.  Ms. Breslin conducts fraud investigations and provides management consulting for audit and fraud when not speaking publicly.  Ms. Breslin has over 25 years of experience in Internal Audit, Fraud, Accounting and Management, including working for global companies like Costco, Barclay’s Capital, ConocoPhillips, and Boart Longyear.  She has implemented and managed audit programs in more than 50 countries. On stage, Ms. Breslin has spoken at the Global ACFE Fraud Conference for the past several years.  She has also spoken at the ACFE conference  Africa, Canada, the UAE, Singapore and Europe. Mary has been an IIA All-Star speakers at their annual Conference – speakers considered the “Best of the Best” in the industry.  Mary speaks and facilitates training regularly for the ACFE, the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and ISACA.  Ms. Breslin attended Rutgers University and University of Phoenix.  She has a BS in Accounting and an MBA.  She completed her MBA from the University of Phoenix while living abroad after accepting an Ex-pat assignment and moving to Italy.  She is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). 

Pav Gill

Pav Gill is a lawyer with extensive experience in financial services laws, focusing on payments and digital assets. He is probably best known as the whistleblower who exposed Wirecard, one of Europe’s greatest financial scandals, for which he received the 2021 Blueprint for Free Speech “Special Recognition Award” for integrity and bravery in the public interest, and the 2022 ACFE “Cliff Robertson Sentinel Award” for publicly disclosing wrongdoing in business or government without regard to personal or professional consequences.

Currently, as Chief Legal Officer of Zipmex, a digital asset exchange, he is responsible for all legal and compliance matters groupwide. Previously, at Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, and King & Spalding, Gill advised governments, banks, and MNCs on international capital markets transactions, including several ‘world firsts’ such as Hutchinson Port’s IPO and the Republic of Turkey’s debut Islamic bond issuance.

As a key opinion leader on topics involving whistleblowing, ethical corporate governance, and regulatory compliance in payments and digital assets, he has been featured by global news outlets like CNBC, BBC, and the Financial Times, and is regularly invited by large banks to conduct internal training for their employees.
